On March 27th of this year, we launched one of our latest client websites. It’s for a deck-building contractor from San Antonio, TX called Paradise Decks & Spas.

The last time Paradise updated their website was in 2012, and they hired a different online marketing company (one that does not specialize in contractor websites) to build it.

Paradise Decks & Spas liked some elements of their old website. But it was starting to show its age (that background wallpaper!) and lacked a strong Identity. You can tell the content was obviously written to get noticed by search engines, which made it uninteresting and awkward to read.

So the company came to us to help them build a contemporary website and create a powerful, passionate, and precise Identity that would make prospects take action.

As you can see, the design is fresh and modern. The colors pop. The Identity is out in full force. And having a message directly from the homeowner on the homepage hooks prospects right from the get go.

This is the kind of quality website and content you NEED to stand a chance in the home improvement industry.

I mean, let’s face it…

Home renovation is not cheap. And research shows that over 90% of people (yes, NINETY PERCENT!) check out a contractor’s website before they decide to make contact for an estimate.

If your website doesn’t dazzle your prospects from the first second—and doesn’t clearly state why they should choose YOU—you’re dead in the water. It’s that simple.

It’s My Giveaway, And I’ll Discriminate If I Want To

I get health insurance through a company called Altrua HealthShare.

Technically, they’re not an insurance company; they are a health-sharing company. Members make a monthly contribution (similar to an insurance premium), which is placed into an escrow account. The contributed money is used to cover members’ healthcare needs.

Since Altrua HealthShare is not an insurance company, it can discriminate as to who it chooses as clients. If you have poor health, eat Big Macs three times a day, or jump out of planes for a living, the company can deny your application.

Fortunately for me, I limit my Big Mac consumption to approximately zero per year, and I don’t cannonball out of light aircraft from 12,000 feet. So I’ve been a satisfied and smiling Altrua client since 2008.

Altrua’s coverage is great, their service is top notch, and their rates are MUCH lower than my alternatives. And since I’ve been an Altrua HealthShare client, I’ve referred about 10 people I know who I believed would fit the company’s client criteria.

Many of the people I’ve referred are self-employed, so they don’t have employers to cover them, and would otherwise have to pay sky-high premiums by going through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

I’m Not Above Shameless Bribery And You Shouldn’t Be Either

Do you know the one surefire way to get people to do what you want?

Good old-fashioned bribery.

  • To make my dog obey my commands, I bribe him with a treat.
  • To get my kids to do their chores, I bribe them with an allowance.
  • To get my wife to let me buy an NBA League Pass, I bribed her with a weekend getaway complete with a stay at a five-star hotel and dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Simply put… (ethical) bribery works!

Bribery - marketing tactic that is stunningly effective
You would know…

You likely get customers to send you referrals by “bribing” them with a cash incentive. And you almost certainly “bribe” homeowners with a discount (a percentage off, a coupon, etc.) for doing business with you.

There’s nothing wrong with bribery. It’s a form of reciprocity. An “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” marketing tactic that’s stunningly effective. (Books on books have been written about the subject.)
